In recent years, there has been an increase in students seeking help for their mental health and youth suicide rates. Due to the education system, students face high levels of stress and anxiety, in which many of them have little outlets to destress. Safespace is a gamified app that aims to help students improve their mental health by instigating daily self-care habits. Since academic pressure is often unintentionally caused by the expectations students feel from their parents, this app also seeks to improve parent and child communication. The interface of the app was heavily inspired by 8bit games in an attempt to tackle the issue in a fun, friendly and comforting manner.
