Corona Comic :

In the early days of the pandemic, when the world was unsure of what Covid-19 was, amongst the most confused were the children. Their lives had changed overnight and there were little or no messages addressed to them.

Kaboom Social Impact was approached to support Welthungerhilfe and WASH United to find solutions to reach children across the world with clear messages around ‘How kids can help beat the Virus.’ The ask was to create a platform for kids that incorporates storytelling and can be extended across multiple media. The response had to be immediate, within a tight timeline of a month.


The pressing need was to ensure that positive practices were incorporated and communicated as a response to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. In other words create a positive shift in behaviours through live saving practices like:

1.) Stay at home,

2) Ensure social distancing

3) Promote regular hand washing, and

4) Protect people around.

Based on the limited insights available in March 2020, it was important that we focus on a shift in attitudes and behaviours of children, ensure the messages are visual, positive and solution-oriented rather than creating further panic.

Kaboom created a world with four children from different continents; the characters were designed to resonate with children across the world, and also alleviate their boredom and frustration. The result was the 8-page #coronacomic and animation, filled with concrete images, playful content and positive messaging that is readily available across the globe.

The comic and its ensuing animation are still being adapted for various regions and we anticipate further uptakes from governments across the globe. In just a month of creation, over 7 governments adopted the comic and animation for widespread dissemination in their respective countries.
