L.A. Dance Project Gala

by Kilograph

The design theme of the 2019 Gala drew a historical and contemporary connection between the South of France and Los Angeles, through a trifecta of wine, food, and dance. Kilograph designed distinctive branding and promotional materials for the event, drawing inspiration from the Gala's theme and the L.A. Dance Project's essential embodiment of movement and rhythm. Aesthetic notes from the event's environment, the beloved indoor-outdoor art gallery setting of Hauser & Wirth DTLA, were also incorporated into the materials. The branding echoes the urban-industrial cement greys blended with the sage green of scenic foliage, softened by a pale pink wash inspired by L.A.'s picturesque sunsets. A custom distressed font was created to draw these connections together and is supported by a selection of typefaces that combine the modernness of L.A. Dance Project's work and the elegance of dance. Central to all of L.A. Dance Project’s visual communication is their powerful photography highlighting the undulating movement of performers which was another key part of the promotional materials.
