When reaching out to prospective art students, the admissions office at VCU School of the Arts uses email, social media, letters and postcards to engage with a high school audience. The communications office design team sought to enhance the effectiveness of these communications by creating a consistent visual language and graphics that were applied across a variety of media. Rather than focusing on images of student art, we decided to convey the distinctive experience and community one would find at VCUarts. We depicted figures that represent a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, genders and abilities. After a successful implementation, these fun, whimsical graphics were incorporated in invitations, thank you notes, congratulations letters and acceptance packets, event posters, and social media. This consistent and distinct design has allowed our messages to cut through an already cluttered visual world.
